Njekwa Lumbwe, national coordinator of the Palliative Care Alliance of Zambia, is the guest of honor at a premiere film screening of "A Unified Presence," on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Hendersonville High School Auditorium. Lumbwe will host a talk back session for audience members following the viewing. A VIP welcome reception for Lumbwe will precede the event at the Four Seasons Palliative Care Clinic.

The short documentary features the inspiring cross-continental partnership of PCAZ with Four Seasons Compassion for Life, Flat Rock, in their collaborative effort to improve access to quality palliative care during serious, life-limiting illness or at end of life for individuals throughout Zambia.

During a personal experience of caring for terminally ill family members, Lumbwe saw a need for empathic care as disease progression outran treatment effectiveness.

"We are moving into a global family; what happens on one side of the world affects the other," says Lumbwe. "Things are never equal in the world. To find a partner who is willing to work with you to make your situation better is a gift."

Filmed on location in Zambia and North Carolina by Emmy award-winning Asheville filmmakers Dylan and Melanie Trivette, the documentary captures the importance of this partnership.

Zambia lies in the sub-Saharan, southern region of Africa. With fewer than 800 doctors nationwide, expert consensus remains that the country is ill-equipped to take care of the needs of the seriously ill and dying. On average, Zambians have a life expectancy of 48 years, about half that of North Carolinians, with high incidences of HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and cancer.

"It is frustrating to have a patient with an incurable condition," says Lumbwe. "Yet, there is something you can do for the patient."

As doctors and nurses are certified in advanced palliative care methods, it makes a huge difference in the lives of the Zambian people served.

"Four Seasons has anchored in to support us, building the capacity of care providers to be able to provide palliative care services and advanced training. The cross-cultural aspects of collaboration between agencies half a world apart is crucial to the mission's success," says Lumbwe. "It establishes a foundation on which you can do everything else. People are coming - to give help and also to understand the culture. Nothing is more gratifying than that."

"A Unified Presence," premieres Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Hendersonville High School Auditorium, 1 Bearcat Boulevard, followed by a "talk back" session with Lumbwe. Tickets are $10, available in advance at http://www.zambiafundraiser.com/ .

A V.I.P. welcome reception for Lumbwe will precede the event from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons Palliative Care Clinic, 506 Park Hill Court. For more information about Four Seasons Compassion for Life or its work in Zambia, visit http://www.fourseasonscfl.org/zambia/ .

Cher Draws National Attention to Festering Wound in American Psyche

Author: Cameron Baxter Films, LLC
Dateline: Aspen, Colorado (ASPEN, Colo.)  | Thu, 05 Dec 2013

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Cameron Baxter Films, LLC today announced a new filmmaking project and crowd-funding campaign to shed light on the historical facts of the events at Plymouth Plantation between 1620 and 1675, before, during and after 'The First Thanksgiving,' a period in American history shrouded in misconception and misinformation.”

ARTICLE:

Cameron Baxter Films, LLC today announced a new filmmaking project and crowd-funding campaign to shed light on the historical facts of the events at Plymouth Plantation between 1620 and 1675, before, during and after 'The First Thanksgiving,' a period in American history shrouded in misconception and misinformation.

Cher, part Cherokee, jumped on the bandwagon with the Thanksgiving debunkers via Twitter on the day before Thanksgiving when she tweeted to her nearly 2 million followers: "Stealing Land, from a ppl, Who believed, Owning LAND Was LIke Owning SKY! We gave them Blankets laced w/Smallpox @cher."

This statement by the superstar went viral within days with hundreds of media outlets picking it up. Thousands upon thousands of likes, shares, retweets and conversations on Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook spread the news like wildfire. "Global Grind" (The World According to Hip-Pop) shows how a story mutates like a game of "Telephone" with their article, "Tell 'em! Cher Gives Her Followers a Thanksgiving History Lesson via Twitter" - "She continues, elaborating on the crimes against Native Americans and tactics early settlers used to make sure Native communities wouldn't survive."

In her tweet Cher is echoing the revisions to history that have been propounded on the internet over several decades and articulated at "The National Day of Mourning" every Thanksgiving Day since 1970 in Plymouth, Mass. by leaders of the United American Indians of New England (UAINE) and many others.

Mahtowin Munro (Lakota) and Moonanum James (Wampanoag), co-leaders of UAINE state in their November 28, 2013 press release that "Native people from throughout the Americas [come] to Plymouth, where they [mourn] their forebears who had been sold into slavery, burned alive, massacred, cheated, and mistreated since the arrival of the Pilgrims in 1620." They go on to say "[Now] we are treated either as quaint relics from the past, or are, to most people, virtually invisible."

"Unfortunately for all Americans, Indian and white, the 'truth' being spoken on the internet and in Plymouth, Mass. at the National Day of Mourning is a distorted rendition of an extraordinary moment in human history," states Connie Baxter Marlow, Pilgrim descendent, scholar, filmmaker and long-time champion of the Native Americans.

She adds, "There is no historical basis for what is being said. The result is serious confusion due to the blurring of dates, places and people into a mish-mash of horror and hardship for the Native people. The fact is, the Mayflower Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians lived in peace and friendship for over fifty years. There is a place of honor awaiting the Pilgrims and the Indians once we understand what they accomplished for all of us. They planted the seeds of democracy. For this we can be thankful."

Marlow and fellow filmmaker Andrew Cameron Bailey are planning to complete the historical research, create a narrative film, produce a documentary film, and write a historical novel to shed light on the events in Plymouth between 1620 and 1675.

"The English Separatists known as the Mayflower Pilgrims drafted the famous 'Mayflower Compact' and formed themselves into a self-governing 'civil body politic to serve the common good,' before landing at Cape Cod in November 1620. When they met the Massasoit Ousa Mequin, leader of the Pokanoket band of Wampanoag Indians in the spring of 1621, they signed a treaty that both the Pilgrims and Indians honored for 55 years," says Bailey, author, filmmaker and independent scholar. "I don't think Cher was being malicious. I love her, but she is simply, like so many others, ignorant of the facts."

Bailey and Marlow have spent a decade following the Pilgrim trail from Cambridge and Scrooby, England to Leyden, Holland and Cape Cod, Mass., meeting with Pilgrim scholars to discover what motivated the Pilgrims and how they related to their Indian neighbors. They have spent thirty years creating forums for visionary Native American elders to share their way of life and knowledge with films, photography exhibitions and books. They plan to bring historical accuracy to a balanced re-telling of this important story - a story that has been misinterpreted and misunderstood through the centuries and which lies deep in the American psyche.

Cameron/Baxter Films, LLC seeks financial supporters and team players to bring balance to the understanding of the founding of America and the individuals who laid the seeds of free government during a unique period in human history, the first fifty years of peace and friendship at Plymouth Plantation.

A premiere screening of 'A Unified Presence,' a short documentary film featuring Four Seasons Compassion for Life, Flat Rock, and its cross-continental partnership with the Palliative Care Association of Zambia is slated for Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Asheville Community Theater, 6:30-9 p.m.

The Zambian partnership formed in 2011 to provide support to a country with limited access to this compassionate form of medical care. Then, in 2013, Four Seasons sent a medical mission team to Zambia to assist with care, develop strategy, and create a mutual vision to increase the reach of the Palliative Care Association of Zambia. For more information, visit http://www.fourseasonscfl.org .

Zambia is in the sub-Saharan, southern region of Africa.

Four Seasons partners with PCAZ because their missions align, according to Janet Bull, M.D., chief medical officer, who helped formulate the partnership.

"The partnership focuses on improving access to quality palliative life care throughout Zambia," says Bull, who donated a 2012 Cunniff Dixon Foundation award of $25,000 to train and educate Zambian nurses and physicians to this end.

On average, Zambians have a life expectancy of 48 years, about half that of North Carolinians, and high incidences of HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and cancer. With fewer than 800 doctors nationwide, expert consensus is that the country's medical system remains ill-equipped to take care of the needs of the seriously ill and dying.

Filmed on location in Zambia and North Carolina by Emmy award-winning Asheville filmmakers Dylan and Melanie Trivette, "A Unified Presence" highlights the collaborative effort of the two agencies to improve access to quality palliative care during serious, life-limiting illness or at end of life for individuals throughout Zambia.

For more information about Four Seasons Compassion for Life, Flat Rock, and its work in Zambia, visit http://www.fourseasonscfl.org/ .

"A Unified Presence" premieres Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Asheville Community Theater, from 6:30-9 p.m. The event includes the screening, a reception and discussion with filmmakers and members of the Four Seasons-Zambia partnership team. Tickets are available online, http://www.zambiafundraiser.com/ or at the door, $25.

Actor Stuntman Zak Lee Guarnaccia scores a role in ‘Degradation’ written and produced by brothers Paul and Daniel Lupi

Author: LightRow Pictures
Dateline: Hollywood, California (HOLLYWOOD, Calif.)  | Mon, 12 Aug 2013

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Actor and stuntman Zak Lee Guarnaccia, Executive Producer at LightRow Pictures and Paul Lupi, Producer of Mill Reef Films, are developing a feature film in the martial-arts, action-thriller genre entitled 'Kalm.' In addition, Guarnaccia is in talks for a role in another Lupi production 'Degradation,' written and produced with brother Daniel Lupi.”

ARTICLE:

Actor and stuntman Zak Lee Guarnaccia, Executive Producer at LightRow Pictures and Paul Lupi, Producer of Mill Reef Films, are developing a feature film in the martial-arts, action-thriller genre entitled "Kalm." In addition, Guarnaccia is in talks for a role in another Lupi production "Degradation," written and produced with brother Daniel Lupi ("Lincoln," "The Master," "There Will Be Blood," "Catch Me If You Can," "Boogie Nights").

"Kalm" is a bodyguard assigned to chauffeur a headlining exotic dancer to a desert town, when they get caught in the crossfire of warring drug lords.

"Degradation" follows a suburban cop whose family is targeted by a maniacal mastermind who drags them through a gauntlet of deceit, deviant sexual behavior, and murder.

Guarnaccia's gritty film "Rules" grabbed the attention of Paul Lupi whose company Mill Reef Films is now in talks to co-produce properties in the Lightrow roster, which include "Wasted," "The Next Big Hit," "The Cook and The Thief," and "Rules Reborn."

Award-winning actor Zak Lee Guarnaccia's rugged looks, relentless style of martial arts, and experience in stunt-work and action choreography has lead to his reputation as "The Italian Jackie Chan."

Guarnaccia says: "The movie is an extreme martial arts thriller, based on a man who goes by the name 'Kalm.' The character's demeanor intrigues me since I am an energetic and enthusiastic person, and I get to play against type, until all hell breaks loose."

"Kalm" is written by Ken Mora, writer/producer of the spoof of Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" films entitled "Magnum Farce," and boasts director of photography David Paul, of the film mythology "The Barbarians." The production will create a distinct vision for "Kalm" which will be shot in the most desolate stretch of road in the USA.

Guarnaccia's recent appearances include the psychotic henchman on "NCIS Los Angeles" season 4 episode "Lokhay," the lead role of Pancho Villa on Spike TV's "Deadliest Warrior" season 3, a bodyguard in ABC's "General Hospital," and a nationally-aired American Express Commercial with Conan O'Brien.

LightRow Pictures concurrent projects "The Next Big Hit,"
( https://www.facebook.com/TheNextBigHit ) features the unique genre mash-up of martial-arts and musical comedy, and the movie "The Cook and the Thief" has drawn the active interest of Russell Wong ("The Mummy," "Romeo Must Die," "Joy Luck Club") and Lou Ferrigno ("The Hulk (TV)" and "I Love You, Man").

ARTICLE:

Actor and stuntman Zak Lee Guarnaccia, Executive Producer at LightRow Pictures and Paul Lupi, Producer of Mill Reef Films, are developing a feature film in the martial-arts, action-thriller genre entitled "Kalm." In addition, Guarnaccia is in talks for a role in another Lupi production "WASTED," written and produced with brother Daniel Lupi ("Lincoln," "The Master," "There Will Be Blood," "Catch Me If You Can," "Boogie Nights").

"Kalm" is a bodyguard assigned to chauffeur a headlining exotic dancer to a desert town, when they get caught in the crossfire of warring drug lords.

"WASTED" follows a suburban cop whose family is targeted by a maniacal mastermind who drags them through a gauntlet of deceit, deviant sexual behavior, and murder.

Members of the Hollywood Community and Military Charity Arrive in Washington, D.C. to Receive Congressional Commendations

Author: National Foundation for Military Family Support
Dateline: Los Angeles, California (LOS ANGELES, Calif.)  | Mon, 29 Apr 2013

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Congressional and Political dignitaries welcomed members of the National Foundation for Military Family Support (NFMFS), as well as members of the motion picture 'American Identity,' to Washington D.C. to be recognized through special events, including receiving Congressional Commendations.”

A R T I C L E:

Congressional and Political dignitaries welcomed members of the National Foundation for Military Family Support (NFMFS), as well as members of the motion picture 'American Identity,' to Washington D.C. to be recognized through special events, including receiving Congressional Commendations.

A group of sixteen invited to our nation's capital arrived for ceremonial events, headed by Stephen Rollins, a motion picture writer, producer, and director, serves as CEO for Lightning Pictures LLC and NFMFS, and a 2012 Independent Presidential Candidate. Three others from the Rollins group receiving honors and recognition were actor and comedian Jay Flats, film and television actress Becky Patterson, and producer Jane West.

On Monday, April 21, the week-long festivities began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. On Tuesday, April 22, Rollins, Flats, Patterson, and West visited Capitol Hill and received Congressional Commendations. In addition, each then received notification that flags were being flown over the United States Capitol that day in their honor.

Rollins' group is being honored for their work with charitable organizations, ranging from military to family and children support. Rollins produced and directed a short film version of American Identity, which honored our military and their response following the events of 9/11. Rollins will be bringing the feature version to the theaters later this year, and plans to donate portions of the proceeds to charitable organizations, including military and family support.

Following his presidential campaign, Rollins launched NFMFS to provide assistance with mental and medical needs for our returning military, in hopes of helping reduce the number of military suicides.

Producer Jane West was the key in bringing the short film version of American Identity to life leading to the feature, and continues to support charitable causes through their work. Mr. Flats and Mrs. Patterson, in addition to their involvement with the feature version of American Identity, are distinguished members of the Hollywood community and contribute exceptional work with charitable organizations such as the KingsCare Foundation. Flats, in addition to his acting, is a stand-up comedian, performs pre-show entertainment for shows such as American Idol, and is the in-arena host for the Los Angeles Kings hockey team.

Becky Patterson has appeared in numerous projects as an actress, and is also part of the Los Angeles Kings Ice Crew team. They proudly use their talents to give back to those in need. It is for these works that this group received invitations to Washington, D.C. to be recognized and applauded.

Event locations for the group included Rollins and West visiting the 9/11 memorial in New York City, then making their way to Washington to join their group for the special wreath ceremony as well as events that included meetings with congressional leaders on Capitol Hill, attending a session of the Senate, and visiting the Pentagon and the White House.

More exciting events and invitations are forthcoming for Lightning Pictures LLC and NFMFS. The goal of the group is simply to entertain, while bringing recognition to those in our military and communities in need.
