Holiday Travel Deals 2019-2020: Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Travel Tuesday - November is full of travel deals for those looking to save money on their next vacation, according to TravelInsurance.com. Just don't forget to purchase travel insurance to protect your investment, even if your travel dates are just around the corner.

Travel insurance can protect a traveler's wallet from the seemingly exhaustive number of issues that can pop up while traveling over the holidays. Whether a winter storm causes flight cancellations, delayed and lost baggage leaves you high and dry, or an unexpected illness suddenly hits just before you depart, the only thing you can expect is the unexpected. Travel insurance can provide peace of mind that, in many of the worst travel scenarios, travel costs can be covered.

Travel insurance also makes a great holiday gift for avid travelers.

"November is one of the best times of year to hunt down great travel deals, with travel companies providing no shortage of discounts," said Stan Sandberg, co-founder of TravelInsurance.com. "However, discounted travel often requires date flexibility and you have to act fast to secure those deals, a combination that can come back to haunt you. With the right travel insurance, you can ensure that if an unforeseen issue does arise, you won't lose the trip investment, however discounted it might be."

To take advantage of all travel insurance has to offer, including coverage for pre-existing conditions or an optional Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) upgrade, it's important travelers purchase their travel insurance plan within 7-21 days of their first payment. When shopping for travel insurance, comparison sites like TravelInsurance.com offer travelers the ability to choose from a wide array of providers and plans with differing levels of benefits and pricing, resulting in the purchase of a plan that best meets a traveler's needs and budget.

Most comprehensive plans include the following:
* Trip Cancellation, which covers non-refundable pre-payments for holiday travel arrangements that may be cancelled due to covered reasons such as unexpected extreme weather, health issues of those traveling or even work-related issues that arise.
* Trip Interruption, which covers certain events that take place once travel has already begun and causes a traveler to cut the trip short.
* Baggage Insurance, which provides reimbursement for clothing, personal property, and other items in lost, damaged or stolen luggage - even the luggage itself.
* Medical Travel Insurance, which limits the financial burden of emergency medical coverage for those who fall ill or are injured while traveling. Such coverage is particularly significant for international travelers, as most domestic health insurance plans don't cover medical bills from foreign countries.
* Medical Evacuation Insurance, which will cover the transportation cost of an emergency medical evacuation when adequate care is unavailable at your destination. For those who plan to spend the holidays at a remote destination, emergency evacuation coverage can be critically important.

While travel insurance is a smart move for anyone purchasing travel, it can also be a thoughtful gift this holiday season.

"Many people don't realize that they can purchase travel insurance for someone else as a gift. As long as you know their trip details and some basic information such as their dates of birth, you can surprise your loved ones with the gift of peace of mind with a travel insurance plan this holiday."

Old Newsday Site Readies for Re-development into LEED-Certified Warehouse and Distribution Center

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. -- Art-Of-Form Architectural Services, PLLC, (AOF) a commercial, award-winning architectural firm, announces it's working with Hartz Mountain Industries to re-develop the old, vacated Newsday site. The project will include the design and development of two buildings that will be designated for industrial use.

Hartz Mountain plans to demolish the site's existing, approximately 400,000 square-foot building and construct two new buildings that would total nearly 1 million square feet. The buildings will be occupied as multi-tenant industrial, warehousing and distribution spaces.

Hartz Mountain is working with the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), which gave preliminary approval on more than $16.8 million in tax breaks to assist the company in redeveloping the site.

The site and buildings will be environmentally eco-friendly and LEED certified with a vast roof-mounted solar array. The solar array will generate an enormous amount of power. Height will be a huge feature with interior clearances in the range of 45 feet.

"The height alone distinguishes it from most industrial facilities in New York City and Long Island," Ray Caliendo, AIA, ASID, founding principal of AOF says. "Most other spaces allotted for this type of use don't come close to this height availability."

And, there's a high demand for warehousing and distribution space in the area, so this influx of quality space will significantly benefit many businesses and residents in the surrounding area. Project completion is estimated sometime in 2021 and is predicted to add 800 jobs with an annual payroll of $32 million to the region.

Mark Searage, co-principal, AOF, says that Hartz hired AOF because they wanted a "boots on the ground architect" that was highly experienced in commercial and industrial design and knew the locale and marketplace.

"Our history with such redevelopment and repurposing projects includes more than 2 million square feet of new or repurposed space at the former Northrop Grumman site in Bethpage, N.Y.," Searage says.

"We're extremely excited to represent Hartz Mountain in their initial development efforts on Long Island," Searage says. "There's no question that this is the right combination of capable and willing developer working in concert with a highly experienced architect to create a project unique to this locale."

AOF senior architect, Michael Brandt was instrumental in forging the relationship between Hartz Mountain and AOF.

AOF project manager, Rich Muesch and marketing director, Shari Goldberg are all excited to be on board with this project.

Long Island Entrepreneur Leads the Flareology Movement

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. -- Obsessed with sparking change from within, Lesley Nurse found a way to do that and now wants to share her methods with others. She's developed a concept that she's calling "Flareology" and it's designed to help people, primarily women, to claim their power or get it back and make positive changes in their lives.

"Someone once asked me, 'Do you know your power?' I had no idea what he was talking about," Nurse says. "I started thinking about failed and toxic relationships and the absence of a father figure in my life. I was acting out, but not in a way that helped me. In fact, my actions were hurting me. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. It was time for me to claim my power and now that I've found it, I want to inspire other women to do the same. Flareology is all about self-care and healing."

As a young child and adult, Nurse experienced numerous traumatic events that led her to where she is today.

"I had to figure out a way to deal with the pain and to start trusting people," she says. "I had walls up and aggression was a form of protection. I started reading and watching spiritual programs and took pieces of what worked and left other pieces behind. I've put the pieces together and learned how to heal."

The end result is a new online mini-course that coaches and mentors women on how they, too, can leave the past behind while moving towards a better and more empowered future.

The course, "What Is Self-Care? 10 Key Tips to Go from Toxic to Triumphant Living" is especially designed for passionate, driven women who have experienced physical and emotional abuse and are trying to find their way back from the dark.

"It's never too late to heal," Nurse says. "Don't apologize for the past, but don't fall victim to it either. People are often surprised to learn about my past. I walk around with scars, but no one can see them."

Nurse acts as a guide of sorts in this 60-minute online course where she outlines the 10 tips, elaborates on them and then provides multiple suggestions for consideration. The course helps women to ease into self-care with the ultimate goal of achieving peace and balance. It's a confidential environment where women can be in a safe space while healing from bondage. It's an ideal starting point for people who have tried failed options such as therapy. The end of the course provides a gift affirmation that people can carry with them.

"We all have power. I know better now and understand that I have a responsibility to always remember that," Nurse says.

The term "Flareology," sparking change within, came to Nurse after several hours of contemplation and a few double doses of espresso. She examined intentional words and meanings and sought to create a catchy phrase that would make women feel part of a movement. Boom. Flareology - which also gives a shout out to her job as a cocktail server; she loves the word "mixology."

About Lesley Nurse, founder Flareology(TM):

Nurse grew up in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Her family is from Trinidad and Tobago. In addition to leading the Flareology movement, she's also the author of two children's books, "How Sunny Sees It;" and "The Tale of Greedy Reeby." She's a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City and has an evolving fashion line called 7Seven Spark. She says everything she does is to "spark change." She's a self-proclaimed "flareologist" and wants to show others how to earn and own that name too.

NYC Dancers Step Together in Short Musical Film to Encourage Our Youth to Speak Out!

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- 3 cords & a hook studios announces "Youthful Faces," bringing together some of NYC's best dancers, including: Matt Wiercinski (Broadway: "Anastasia" - Ensemble/Prince Siegfried) and Kathryn Zimmer (Broadway: "Matilda The Musical"), to encourage and become a catalyst for our younger generation to speak up and speak out to illuminate the future they want to see.

The dance, musical short film, shot in the streets of Brooklyn, N.Y. is a collaboration between award-winning choreographer Lane Napper, who is known for his choreography work on the Nickelodeon shows "iCarly" and "Victorious," the socially charged music of Jour Majesty and visionary filmmaker Michael C. Perry, known from his award-winning short musical films, "The Carnival Kid," and "Empty Box of Wine."

The film follows thirteen dancers, each defining their unique style of dance to illuminate their concerns about the future. The performance is to the words and music of Jour Majesty's single, "Youthful Faces."

"The lyrics completely spotlight the anxieties of our youth," says Choreographer Lane Napper. "Glowing shiny faces swiping for affirmation, Page by page in a sea of distraction and the people took no action, and the earth became fractured."

Each performer came up with their own interpretation of the song and lyrics to capture their feeling about our current societal condition.

"I am extremely grateful to participate in 'Youthful Faces' to help inspire today's youth to have hope for the future and to courageously take action to drive positive change," says sixteen-year-old Kathryn Zimmer (Broadway: "Matilda"). "Now is the time to speak up and speak out to illuminate the future we want to see. Youthful Faces, raise your voices - right here, right now."

"Youthful Faces" will premiere at the Cutting Room International Short Film Festival in New York City on October 19, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. The musical short is nominated for "Best Music Video" and "Best Director of a Music Video" by the festival. Following the premiere, Youthful Faces will be available to view by everyone at https://youthfulfacesmovie.com/.

We want to encourage our young people to take hold of their futures and be part of the conversation; whether raising their voices at the ballot box, volunteering, mentoring other young people, or maybe just being kind to other human beings. The actions and decisions of today will follow them for the rest of their lives. They should have a stake in the question; let's give them a voice.

Walk with Us to Cure Lupus, New York – There’s Strength in Our Strides!

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Join New York's lupus community and the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) Saturday, October 12 to Walk with Us to Cure Lupus at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in Manhattan.

Walk with Us to Cure Lupus is the LRA's signature national program that unites communities across the country to achieve one goal - to raise the much-needed funds to improve care and find the cure.

In lupus, the immune system, which should protect against infection, instead creates antibodies that can attack any part of the body. More than 90% of the millions of people worldwide who live with lupus are women. African Americans, Latinx, Asians and Native Americans are two to three times at greater risk than Caucasians.

This day is set for a true celebration. Before and after the Walk, participants can take part in Tie Dying tee shirts, face painting, Team photos, and signing the annual Hope Begins Here banner displayed in the LRA national office in NYC. Free breakfast, snacks and a 25% discount at Coldstone Creamery add to the fun for all ages.

The Walk route is about 3.1 miles around the Intrepid on Pier 86 at West 46th Street. Walkers are encouraged to go at their own pace and cover their own distance; it is not necessary to complete the route. For more information about the NYC Walk, contact Elizabeth Vega-Eng at lupuswalknyc@lupusresearch.org or 646.884.6043.

"Thousands are walking across the United States to raise awareness and funds for lupus research," comments Kenneth M. Farber, President and CEO of the Lupus Research Alliance. "Through the efforts of communities like New York, this program has contributed millions to be invested in the most innovative and promising research that has led to every pivotal advance in lupus to date."

The lupus community thanks Walk sponsors for their ongoing support and commitment: Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, Hospital for Special Surgery, NY Jets, Northwell Health, GSK, Us in Lupus, First Data, Cantor Fitzgerald, WCBS/WLNY, iHeart Radio, Aurinia.
