National Online Speech Therapy Company Creates Free Resource Library in Response to Pandemic

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Great Speech, Inc., an online speech therapy company, saw a spike for service demand when the pandemic hit. Founder and Clinical Director, Avivit Ben-Aharon, MS Ed., MA CCC-SLP, also quickly realized that many consumers who desperately needed services, lacked the financial resources or insurance coverage to pay for online services.

With a strong desire to fill the void, Ben-Aharon along with her team of therapists, created a free resource library of how-to videos, eBooks and blogs with speech therapy exercises for children and adults.

"The pandemic has highlighted the strong need for online speech therapy services," Ben-Aharon explained. "Despite stay-at-home and stay-safe orders, we need to keep moving forward. Children who are out of school as well as seniors who are rehabbing from a health crisis such as a stroke, can quickly fall behind in their learning and/or recovery. These free learning and exercise resources empower people to continue to make communication improvements."

These free online speech therapy resources can help everyone from a child who stutters to an adult on the autism spectrum or a senior recovering from a traumatic brain injury. They are also ideal for the parent-turned-teacher for activities and exercises to practice at home. The technology really resonates with how more and more businesses are moving to remote and online operations.

The advantages of online speech therapy are endless. For example, a grandmother in Chicago who has suffered a stroke can connect online with a speech therapist from Houston, while her daughter in Cleveland monitors the session; or a therapist who moves out of town can still provide services to their clients and provide continuity of care.

Great Speech's highly-trained speech therapists provide effective techniques for everything from articulation and phonology to stuttering, voice therapy, aphasia and more. Each speech therapist holds a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology; a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); and is licensed by various state licensing boards.

About Great Speech, Inc.

Since 2014, Great Speech, Inc. has been the pioneer in online speech therapy, delivering convenient and specialized services virtually. Its innovative approach leverages technology to match highly-qualified therapists with clients who are serious about their communication goals. Great Speech believes that everyone deserves the chance to communicate with ease and confidence. Great Speech is a proud recipient of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certification.

FileMage Gateway Now Available in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- FileMage, a provider of enterprise-grade cloud migration and file transfer software solutions, today announced the availability of FileMage Gateway in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, an online store providing applications and services for use on Azure. FileMage Gateway customers can now take advantage of the productive and trusted Azure cloud platform, with streamlined deployment and management.

FileMage Gateway is an FTP and SFTP server backed by Azure Blob storage, providing a fast and secure solution for Azure customers who want to migrate legacy file transfer workflows into the Azure cloud platform. File transfers are streamed in-memory without writing to disk, and changes are seamlessly visible in real time. The solution's flexible folder permission management features allow customers to benefit from the scale and reliability of Azure Blob storage as a file sharing platform with business partners and clients.

"Microsoft Azure Marketplace lets customers worldwide discover, try, and deploy software solutions that are certified and optimized to run on Azure," said Sajan Parihar, Senior Director, Microsoft Azure Platform at Microsoft Corp. "Azure Marketplace helps solutions like FileMage Gateway reach more customers and markets."

The Azure Marketplace is an online market for buying and selling cloud solutions certified to run on Azure. The Azure Marketplace helps connect companies seeking innovative, cloud-based solutions with partners who have developed solutions that are ready to use.

Dogs Trapped in Hot Cars – The Sacramento SPCA is Helping Keep Pets Safe

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- As the Sacramento region heads into an extremely hot week, one local animal welfare organization is taking action to help animals left in hot cars. The Sacramento SPCA is providing thermometers to all animal control officers in Sacramento County in an effort to prevent animals from suffering and dying in hot cars and to hold those who caused this suffering accountable.

Each year police and animals control officers in our community respond to hundreds of calls about animals - most often dogs - left in hot cars. These are reported by Good Samaritans who hear the animals crying for help or, in the worst cases, notice an animal that has passed out or stopped breathing. California law now allows these Good Samaritans to break into the vehicle under certain circumstances.

"We need the community to know that there are consequences to leaving an animal in a car - no matter the reason," said Kenn Altine, CEO of the Sacramento SPCA. "The consequences for the animal are horrific," he said, "but too often the person is not held accountable."

Altine said the thermometers, which are certified tested and calibrated, will allow the animal control officers to accurately capture the ambient air temperature in the vehicle as part of their evidence collection.

"By having a reliable and accurate recording of the temperature using a certified thermometer, we can better hold the people accountable for their actions," said Sacramento County DDA Hilary Bagley-Franzoia. The Sacramento County District Attorney handles cases of animals left in cars.

They've already had several cases this year, including an animal who was left in a car where the temperature reached 130 degrees, causing the animal to have seizures, neuropathy and to bleed through its skin and paws. Forty-five minutes after the animal was freed from the car, its internal temperature was still 108 degrees (normal body temperature for dogs and cats is 101 to 102.5 degrees).

About the Sacramento SPCA:

Founded in 1892, the Sacramento SPCA has been providing homeless animals with individual comfort, shelter, and love for more than 128 years. They provide compassionate medical care to tens of thousands of animals annually and offer a variety of programs and services designed to keep people and pets together for life.

First Los Angeles Dental Clinic That Uses Hospital-Type HVAC Systems to Mitigate Diseases Like COVID-19

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Mi Dentista Dental Clinic in collaboration with a mechanical engineering firm, HVAC Engineering, has set up the first known dental clinic in Los Angeles that uses Negative Pressure Environments to mitigate diseases like COVID-19, namely the disease associated with the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

Novel coronavirus, as the virus is frequently known, is believed to spread via droplets or aerosols produced from coughing, dental procedures, and breathing among others. Thus, the physical proximity between patients and dentists during a typical dental visit may benefit from additional care and attention.

Mi Dentista has set up elegantly-designed high-efficiency negative pressure dental units so that both droplets and aerosols may be rapidly eliminated via a high-speed vacuum. Each unit's reverse flow fan is rated to evacuate up to 2100 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) which means that the quiet, powerful system may replace the air around every dental unit every 20 seconds. In addition, due to the 6000 CFM rating of the multiple reverse flow fans, the air across the entire dental office may be replaced every 90 seconds. Most importantly, as you can see in the video below, the air around the treatment care area, namely the oral region where dental procedures are carried out, is being constantly replaced and refreshed without interruption.

The negative pressure approach is the same method that large, specialized hospitals use to prevent the transmission of many airborne pathogens like tuberculosis and measles in the form of negative pressure isolation rooms. Yet, without similar support, dentists and dental assistants may have a higher chance of becoming infected and transmitting the disease to others.

"Ventilation systems that provide air movement from a clean (DHCP workstation or area) to contaminated (clinical patient care area) flow direction should be installed...," CDC COVID-19 Guidance for Dental Settings (Updated on May 19, 2020).

"Consider the use of a portable HEPA air filtration unit while the patient is actively undergoing, and immediately following, an aerosol-generating procedure. The use of these units will reduce particle count (including droplets) in the room...." "Consider the use of upper-room ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as an adjunct to higher ventilation and air cleaning rates."

The Mi Dentista dental team has also implemented other infection control methods recommended by the CDC and the American Dental Association including avoiding placing patients in an enclosed waiting room, no accompanying visitors, repeated disinfection of surfaces during the day, and frequently replacing masks, face shields, gowns, goggles, and gloves. The air evacuated from the dental environment also first goes through a high-efficiency pre-filter and then is treated with high-powered, UV-C radiation to destroy virus particles. While no approach completely and absolutely eliminates the risk of infection, these methods are believed to help reduce it.

"During this global pandemic, it is important that we help minimize the spread and cross-contamination of pathogens," said Dr. Sadeghpour, Dentist, Mi Dentista Dental Clinic. "I am so proud that collaboration between medicine and engineering can identify and develop a possible solution for reducing the spread of infectious diseases so we can better protect patients and caregivers."

Please call the office at 323-582-1999 to set up an appointment for general dentistry, aesthetic and/or orthodontics procedures. The dental clinic is located near downtown Los Angeles at 3826 Florence Avenue, Bell, CA 90201. Se habla Espanol.

Mental Health Awareness License Plate Winning Design

LAFAYETTE, Calif. -- BeingwellCA, a California 501(c)(3), submitted the initial design for the Mental Health Awareness License Plate to California Department of Education for DMV review.

The winning design was selected after a statewide contest held for high school students. Winning artist Anshuree Banerjee took her passion for art to create meaningful imagery for the new Mental Health California license plate.

"I wanted a design that clearly included California as part of the solution and was positive about mental health," said Anshuree, a student at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California.

"This license plate has the potential of raising millions of dollars for student mental health which are so desperately needed in the post Covid-19 school environment. And it does it without raising taxes," said Graham Wiseman, CEO of BeingwellCA.

"Wellness Centers with Caring Adults have proven to be a key in early intervention. A 12-year University of Michigan study reported a reduction of youth deaths by 660%! We need these in all schools." (JAMA Psychiatry, Feb, 2019)

California Senator Steven Glazer (7th District) is the author of SB1223 (4COLIN) that authorizes the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue a specialized license plate for Mental Health Awareness. Funds raised by the Mental Health License Plate will go to the California Department of Education for Mental Health Wellness Centers in California Schools. Due to Covid-19, this bill will carry over to 2021.

About BeingwellCA:

Graham & Caroline Wiseman founded BeingwellCA after the tragic loss of their son to suicide at age 15. With Gail Miller, they are now a leading voice to address the alarming rates of anxiety, depression and suicide ideation in our state. Some districts report depression rates amongst female juniors of 50% with serious suicide ideation of 20% in past year (CalSCHLS, 2018).

Suicide is the SECOND leading cause of death for ages 10-24 (2017 CDC WISQARS).

BeingwellCA's mission is to reduce anxiety, depression and suicide ideation in our youth. We do this by providing schools, parents, students and communities with tool kits and evidence-based strategies for Wellness Centers to provide mental health immediate support.

Customizable Kids’ Routine Charts Help Fill a Needed Niche

AURORA, Colo. -- Marie Green, founder Inspired Prose Printables, saw a need and filled it. She used her graphic design skills to create a business that helps busy parents wrangle schedules through simple drag and drop features that are actually fun for kids to follow.

These fun and attractive printable routine charts will actually inspire kids to stick to their schedules - and that's a chore in itself.

"Many existing chore chart templates have limited customization and lack interesting visuals. Young children respond well to imagery; it's how they learn," Green says. "Inspired Prose Printable routine charts implement that same principle of visual learning."

One busy mom said, "We've been using this with our four-year-old for about six weeks and he really enjoys 'reading' the chart himself. We laminated it, so he can use dry-erase markers to check off the boxes every morning and night. He feels so proud of himself when he completes his list. The customization capabilities of the file were really helpful too."

These editable routine chart templates can help with everything from bedtime routines to morning activities, and updates can be made with just a few clicks of the mouse. Parents can quickly add or remove tasks, change graphics and there's no need to download any software to make modifications happen. Inspired Prose Printables gives moms and dads access to a free drag and drop online editor.

"My overall mission is to give parents the tools they need to create playful designs that inspire positive action," Green says. "These charts help kids and parents to build healthy habits and skills, together."

These daily routine charts for kids not only help parents, but also help kids to develop a sense of autonomy. They allow kids to see what's expected of them which contributes to smoother days.

So, morning meltdowns and bedtime battles will soon be a thing of the past with customizable chore charts from Inspired Prose Printables.
