A R T I C L E:

Ron and Cynthia Peterson, the founders of Sobriety Navigator have announced the launch of their new, full feature web site dealing with addictions - both chemical and behavioral - and the effects they have on individuals, their friends, families and loved ones.

The site was inspired by the personal experiences of its founders, having witnessed many people who suffered in silence and ultimately lost their lives to addiction. Many people are affected by the addict's destructive actions, attitudes and choices. Why do they suffer in silence? They are ashamed and afraid to seek help.

At Sobriety Navigator, you can safely and confidentially read articles written by professionals, members, and people who have "been there," that promote thought, give insight and foster clarity. Submit and share your own stories, if you wish.

Use the Forum to post questions and receive answers. Utilize 24/7 chat rooms. Both general and private chat rooms are available. Use links to addiction related articles to see what is being published in the world-wide media. It's all here and available now.

"On behalf of the people we have known and the people we have never met, we have created Sobriety Navigator as a resource center for people who are questioning their activities or the activities of loved ones, friends or co-workers," said Cynthia Peterson. "It's All About You! Sobriety Navigator, a place where everybody knows your name...your on-line nickname, that is. 'Talk It Out - Don't Act It Out,' at Sorbiety Navigator."

Inmates Are Now Able to Apologize to Their Victims Online at The Apology Project

Author: Joe Baker
Dateline: Springfield, Tennessee (SPRINGFIELD, Tenn.)  | Mon, 12 Nov 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Joe Baker, a Tennessee inmate, has been incarcerated for 24+ years. With the help of his family, Joe has developed a website where offenders can apologize to their victims online in a non-intrusive way. In his quest to make amends for his crime, Joe created the website The Apology Project and continues to give back for his wrongdoing and encourages other inmates to do the same.”

A R T I C L E:

Joe Baker, a Tennessee inmate, has been incarcerated for 24+ years. With the help of his family, Joe has developed a website where offenders can apologize to their victims online in a non-intrusive way. In his quest to make amends for his crime, Joe created the website The Apology Project (theapologyproject.com) and continues to give back for his wrongdoing and encourages other inmates to do the same.

Offenders can post their apology on the website, and victims have the ability to read the apology and offer a response if they so choose.

Baker has also written two books. "Thinking Outside the Fence: A Guide to help your incarcerated loved one in their quest for rehabilitation and reconciliation" is a guide for family members and friends of offenders. The book is a compilation of lessons learned by Joe Baker. During his years of incarceration, he has "learned valuable lessons that led to him transforming his life from behind bars and making amends to his victims."

He has also written "Thinking Outside the Fence: Workbook for Offenders" which is a program he created for inmates. "This program is a guide to help offenders transform their lives. The lessons in the workbook promote a strong relationship with God, apologizing and making amends to their victims, and helping the offender to become a positive and responsible member of society once they are released," adds Baker.

For more information on the two books (ISBNs pending) and how to order, visit: http://www.theapologyproject.com/products.html .

Joe is an inspiration in showing that inmates can change. They do not have to continue to be what they were once convicted of and continue to live a life of crime. He is proof that you can become part of the solution, instead of continuing to be part of the problem. Society should be interested in this, because it displays there can be true change in the world, no matter who you are or what your circumstance. That is what we ALL strive for, and we as a society, need to recognize that we must be proactive in the rehabilitation of inmates if we ever want to see true change.

Cabbies Go High-tech!

Author: For Cabdrivers
Dateline: San Jose, California (SAN JOSE, Calif.)  | Thu, 09 Aug 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Today, cabdriver Yohannes Taye announced the formation of For Cabdrivers(TM) a website dedicated to getting cabdrivers connected from coast-to-coast. According to Taye, the site will act as a central location and gathering place for all information and ideas out there in "cab land" - a website for cabdrivers by cabdrivers.”

A R T I C L E:

Today, cabdriver Yohannes Taye announced the formation of For Cabdrivers(TM) (www.ForCabdrivers.com) a website dedicated to getting cabdrivers connected from coast-to-coast. According to Taye, the site will act as a central location and gathering place for all information and ideas out there in "cab land" - a website for cabdrivers by cabdrivers.

This endeavor didn't start out in the garage of a Silicon Valley house or mansion. This small project started at the Silicon Valley Airport in San Jose, Calif., where Yohannes typically waits for fares in his cab. When he picks up a new fare, he often drives his "mostly hi-tech customers" to the highly innovative regional companies of Google, Apple Computer, Yahoo!, Facebook and the like.

"I was thinking of ways of applying all this innovation around me so that it can be of benefit to us cabdrivers," said Taye. "Then one day the idea came to me that there should be a website where all cabdrivers can come together to exchange ideas and information among themselves. A site where all cabdrivers can get connected to each other; all together at one place."

In his search for websites that deal with cabdrivers, Taye came across a few that were informative. However, the sites showed limited or no feedback from drivers, and also were specific to certain cities or regions. So his focus was on the formation of a site which allowed for a broader input and feedback from cabdrivers from all over; hyper-national versus hyper-local.

The site tries to look at commonalities among the cabdriver community so that drivers can come together in order to benefit themselves, their families and by extension their communities.

Based on the above premise, some of the topics that the ForCabdrivers.com website will be focusing on include:
- The sharing of news related to the cab industry;
- How some of the useful news from different regions can be applied to local situations;
- How immigration laws can affect us and our families;
- Saving money on day-to-day expenses like gas;
- Information drivers need to know in order to take care of their credit; and so on.

The website is divided into different sections like the "Cabbie News" where drivers can get all the news about cabbies and the cab industry from all over. At the "Notice Board" section, drivers can exchange good wishes on the arrival of newborns, graduations, weddings, and also make community events announcements.

The other areas deal with drivers buying and selling their cabs, getting all kinds of useful information on improving their credit scores, how to save on gas, and the like.

At the "Quotes, Facts & Jokes" subsection of the Cabbie News(TM) section, drivers will be inspired by quotes from people of wisdom from all over the world; laugh at the jokes, and get some interesting factoids. According to Taye, the first quote of the site comes from Robert H. Schuller who said, "If you listen to your fears, you will die not knowing what a great person you might have been."

On the portal, drivers will be able to find out about current weather and time information for more than 600 cities worldwide and be able to do currency conversions for about 160 countries.

"We'd like to thank the Timeanddate-com and Likeforex-com websites, respectively, for these very useful information tools," says Taye.

"We are also very grateful to the great company Google for Google Translate, which allows us to translate the contents of our site into 64 different languages. For an industry as diverse as the cab industry, this is of great benefit to us."

Finally, to encourage membership and participation, prizes will be awarded to drivers. It is also in the future plans of ForCabdrivers.com to award scholarships to drivers who demonstrate exceptional achievements in the education as well as other fields as yet to be determined.

Yohannes Taye, who formed the site with the help of his technology advisors Derek Herrold & Lars Deruntz, has attended colleges in Ethiopia, the U.S. and other countries. He just completed a web design course in order to facilitate the formation and development of the For Cabdrivers(TM) website.

Learn more about the new resource for cabbies to connect, at: http://www.ForCabdrivers.com/ .

Yohannes can be contacted on the website via the "Contact Us" page.

Social Network for Kids, Jackie Fame Launches FAME 2.0

Author: Jackie Fame, Inc.
Dateline: Charlotte, North Carolina (CHARLOTTE, N.C.)  | Tue, 28 Feb 2012

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Jackie Fame (www.JFame.com), which bills itself as the 'kid/teen social network,' a Facebook alternative for kids and teens, announced today the launch of its most anticipated FAME 2.0 social network. Jackie Fame is an investment capital funded, Charlotte and Los Angeles based company.”

A R T I C L E:

Jackie Fame (www.JFame.com), which bills itself as the "kid/teen social network," a Facebook alternative for kids and teens, announced today the launch of its most anticipated FAME 2.0 social network. Jackie Fame is an investment capital funded, Charlotte and Los Angeles based company.

Jackie Fame, founded by kid entrepreneurs Zachary Swauger (age 13) and Joshua Swauger (age 10), launched its initial Jackie Fame Network in January of 2011. After the positive response and tremendous membership growth, the brothers put a halt on growth initiatives while focusing on enhanced development efforts of its platform. With continued feedback for improvements from the FAME Kid Advisors, the brothers developed FAME 2.0 - a custom, feature rich, with a scalable network, infrastructure. Also, not surprisingly, Jackie Fame offers an interactive Android and iPhone mobile app available to download for free on over 2,500 wireless devices - FAME Mobile.

In 2011, the Swauger brothers also penned their first book in the "Kid2Kid Book Series" titled "Kid2Kid, Keepin' It Safe Online" (ISBN: 9780615500256). This fun to read book about internet safety, which includes a chapter on anti-bullying, is now available at book stores, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and public libraries.

As a complement to the book, they also launched their anti-bullying site "We Have the Power" - www.WeHaveThePower.net - which is a grass-roots effort encouraging kids to join together in the fight to end bullying.

"What we set out to do was build an awesome place on the web for kids to communicate, share and create new friendships, continue to develop our brandFAME and its superior lines of quality products, provide financial opportunity for our investor team, and prove to the admission officers at Stanford University that we have what it takes to be a Cardinal - in about 5 years," said Joshua Swauger.

"FAME 2.0 is epic!" added Zachary Swauger. "Unlike many other social networks for kids and teens, with Jackie Fame there is no charge to be a member, no advertising in-your-face messages, and our members have the choice to be as private or as public as they want to on their page." Initially, the system defaults to full privacy for all members to provide instant protection. "After that, it's their choice who they friend," added Zachary. In addition, users' data and content is not sold to brands, advertisers, etc. "We ARE 'the brand' and with our merchant partners engaged with the FAME members via our FAME50 platform, coming soon - it's really awesome."

Jackie Fame's BrandFAME will initially launch with the FAMEbody "body treats" personal care line and FAMEnails, the companies nail polish line, due to be in national retail store locations by Q4 2012. BrandFAME, the company's apparel line is expected in stores by Q1 2013. All lines and been developed, branded, quality tested, and are now in the pre-sale process.

The World Mind Network, in conjunction with social network Mightybell (www.mightybell.com), is holding a contest between Stanford and UC Berkeley students to find the best example of the use of Mightybell software to create an experience around a fresh approach to planetary problems like climate change, poverty, disease, sustainability, and illiteracy.

According to WMN spokesperson Anna Chu Lin, "Mightybell is a social network employing a new paradigm which encourages members to create actual 'experiences' rather than just sharing information as they do on traditional social networks."

The World Mind Network is an NGO with members in 37 countries which explores ways of using Internet and Smart phone technologies to solve global problems innovatively. The goal of the contest is to develop simple, understandable protocols for addressing important issues using popular Web 2.0 tools.

The award is called the Gantha prize. Gantha means "sacred bell" in Sanskrit. The winner will be announced online, during halftime of the Big Game between Stanford and Cal on November 19, 2011. The winner will receive either an Apple iPad 2, a Samsung Galaxy II, or a Kindle Fire, plus a Fair Trade copper temple bell from rural India, and a press release publicizing their project.

Berkeley Leads in Exploring Practical and Revolutionary Usages of Web and Cell Tools

Author: World Mind Network
Dateline: Berkeley, California (BERKELEY, Calif.)  | Tue, 20 Sep 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “The University of California at Berkeley, in partnership with the World Mind Network, is becoming the nexus of a new movement aiming to maximize the vast power embedded in commonly used Web and Smart phone technologies to effect useful change in the world.”

A R T I C L E:

The University of California at Berkeley, in partnership with the World Mind Network, is becoming the nexus of a new movement aiming to maximize the vast power embedded in commonly used Web and Smart phone technologies to effect useful change in the world. According to Sarah Mendel of the NGO Friends Without Borders, UC has the size, reputation, and brainpower to show the world the under-realized potential of social networking, micro blogging, cell phone apps, online video, and other popular free electronic tools to solve problems in education, research, environmentalism, and social change.

Berkeley is no stranger to initiating new trends, having sparked the Free Speech movement of the 1960's, and various other cultural, scientific, and academic shifts.

Wikis, search engines, social networking, and the other Web 2.0 phenomena are not new; what is new is the ability to combine their best features to create easily set up projects that allow individuals to have real impact on issues that previously could only be addressed by huge institutions.

Because so many of these things have been introduced to the public as toys, conveniences, or merely as ways to do traditional things a little more efficiently, we forget that programs like Google, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and the like allow modern humans to know almost anything, communicate with almost anyone, create and share almost any kind of content for free, and thus live a richer life than any previous generation. Because we rarely "step back" to examine how powerful these capabilities have made us, we often fail to realize their potential to bring solutions to age-old problems with far less time, cost, and stress than traditional methods.

Additionally, the fact that modern web tools allow individuals the ability to create large Internet "footprints" for themselves means that one person can create a permanent web niche for themselves around a particular issue. In practice, this means that Berkeley students are experimenting with making their work far more public, and yet more personal, at the same time.

Among other programs, Berkeley students have participated in projects which:

- Saved lives after the March 11 earthquake in Fukushima, Japan, by monitoring Twitter, Facebook, and SMS feeds to connect victims with rescuers;

- Created the world's largest collection of pre-1900 archival French audio recordings and preserved them with iTunes and Windows Media files;

- Brought needed infrastructure improvements to villages in Kenya by devising a program which turned unused cell phone minutes from students in America into legal tender for Africans;

- Started a worldwide online discussion group which provided advice to legislators in Nepal who are writing a new national constitution;

- Built one of the world's largest online crowd-sourced experiments which discovered several causes for a sudden fish die-off in Taal Lake in the Philippines, and suggested treatments which were successfully implemented.
