Author: Gingrich Foundation

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the Gingrich Foundation has selected the Autism Society as Charity of the Month, recognizing the organization's devotion to improving the lives of all individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders.”

A R T I C L E:

In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the Gingrich Foundation has selected the Autism Society as Charity of the Month, recognizing the organization's devotion to improving the lives of all individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders.

Approximately 1.5 million Americans live with autism, which has seen a 600 percent increase over the past two decades. Autism, a complex developmental disability that affects a person's communication, socialization, and behavior, places a heavy burden on families, requiring extra time and special attention for the affected family member, in addition to what the Autism Society estimates to be $3.5 million to $5 million in cost to care for one child with autism over their lifetime.

As the nation's leading grassroots autism organization, the Autism Society, founded in 1965, works to increase awareness and provide resources about autism spectrum disorders (ASD), as well as promote the dignity of all individuals on the spectrum. With 150 chapters across the United States, the Autism Society advocates for the best and most appropriate services for individuals and families.

"I would like to sincerely thank Newt and Callista Gingrich for supporting the Autism Society and honoring its accomplishments by naming it the Gingrich Foundation's Charity of the Month, a move that carries particular significance during April, National Autism Awareness Month," said Jeff Sell, Autism Society Vice President of Public Policy. "Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States, and individuals affected by autism have great potential if they have access to the services and supports they need. By supporting the Autism Society, the Gingrich Foundation and its supporters are helping to change lives, and we thank them for their invaluable contribution."

"The Autism Society has made remarkable advancements in increasing public awareness and supporting research to improve the lives of those affected with autism," said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. "We are pleased to select the Autism Society as our Charity of the Month and encourage others to support their outstanding efforts."

In recognition of National Autism Awareness Month, the Autism Society has extended its ongoing partnership with AMC Theaters to include a special 40-city screening tour of a new documentary on autism, entitled, Wretches & Jabberers (http://www.autism-society.org/about-us/national-autism-awareness-month/wretches-jabberers.html).

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

A R T I C L E:

In honor of Women's History Month, the Gingrich Foundation has selected Girl Scouts of the USA as its Charity of the Month for March. Girl Scouts of the USA has become a premier leadership experience for young women since its founding in March 1912 when founder Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low saw the need to mentor and encourage girls to embrace their talents and make their mark on the world.

Today, 2.3 million girls in the United States, from kindergarten to high school, participate in Girl Scouting, composing part of a worldwide family of 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across 145 countries. Girl Scouts of the USA has a total of 3.2 million members, including adult volunteers.

"Our family has been actively involved in the Girl Scouting program for many years," said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. "Girl Scouts of the USA provides an opportunity for girls to develop courage, confidence, and character. We are pleased to recognize the Girl Scouts of the USA as Charity of the Month and encourage others to join us in supporting their valuable efforts."

"We greatly appreciate the support of the Gingrich Foundation," says Timothy Higdon, Chief of External Affairs of Girl Scouts of the USA. "Support for Girl Scouts provides tremendous opportunities for girls to reach their leadership potential making the country and world a better place. We are grateful to the Gingrich family and Foundation for supporting Girl Scouts and choosing our work as the Charity of the Month."

Girl Scouting underscores the importance of respect and responsibility - of honing a girl's courage, strength, and honesty. Girl Scouts of the USA places a strong emphasis on academics, encouraging young girls to develop an early appreciation for academic excellence and lifelong learning.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

Author: National Park Foundation
Dateline: Washington, District of Columbia (WASHINGTON, D.C.)  | Fri, 14 Jan 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “Now through Jan. 21, 2011, one 'click' will directly benefit America's national parks by casting a vote for the National Park Foundation in the $1 million Lowe's Community Giving Campaign. With only eight days remaining, the national parks need your help. The Foundation encourages supporters to vote daily.”

A R T I C L E:

Now through January 21, one "click" will directly benefit America's national parks by casting a vote for the National Park Foundation in the $1 million Lowe's Community Giving Campaign. With only eight days remaining, the national parks need your help. The Foundation encourages supporters to vote daily at www.lowes.com/give or www.facebook.com/lowes . The National Park Foundation is one of four charities competing for the grant from the Lowe's Charitable and Education Foundation.

As part of the challenge grant campaign, each of the competing charities is guaranteed $100,000. Public support through an online voting campaign will determine how the remaining $600,000 will be allotted to the four charities. Funds raised for the Foundation through this campaign will support national park restoration and preservation efforts, connect under served communities to their parks, and give disadvantaged children the opportunity to experience their national parks for the first time.

"The National Park Foundation is excited to participate in Lowe's unique online campaign," said Neil Mulholland, President and CEO of the National Park Foundation. "We are confident in the support of our passionate national park community to help us get the word out about voting so that we can secure the most funding possible."

Consumers can access the voting by visiting www.lowes.com/give or on Lowe's Facebook page. Each individual is able to cast a vote once per day, per email address through January 21. The final percentages of votes for each charity will be posted on the Lowe's website by midnight on January 26, 2011.

For more information on the National Park Foundations' mission and the work and programs the proceeds of this campaign will benefit, visit the National Park Foundation website. For more information on the Lowe's Community Giving Campaign, visit www.lowes.com/give .

Gingrich Foundation Honors Catholic Charities USA as Charity of the Month

Author: Gingrich Foundation
Dateline: Washington, District of Columbia (WASHINGTON, D.C.)  | Wed, 05 Jan 2011

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “This January, as part of its ongoing Charity of the Month program, the Gingrich Foundation honors Catholic Charities USA for its outstanding legacy of service to those in need.”

A R T I C L E:

This January, as part of its ongoing Charity of the Month program, the Gingrich Foundation honors Catholic Charities USA for its outstanding legacy of service to those in need.

Formed in 1910 to be the "attorney for the poor," Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), is now one of the largest social service networks in the country. CCUSA invests donations in programs and services that further its national mission: to provide service to people in need, to advocate for justice in social structures, and to call the entire Church and other people of good will to do the same.

Catholic Charities provides food, shelter, clothing, counseling, direct financial assistance, and other emergency services to over 9 million people each year, regardless of religious, social, or economic background. Inspired by the social teachings of the Catholic Church, CCUSA advocates for the inherent dignity of all human beings to ensure that each have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

"The Gingrich Foundation is pleased to support Catholic Charities USA in their effort to reduce poverty and empower communities," said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. "Newt and I encourage others to join us in supporting the mission of this worthy organization and extend a hand to those in need."

"We are deeply appreciative and very honored to begin the new year by being selected by the Gingrich Foundation as the Charity of the Month for January, 2011," said Rev. Larry Snyder, President and CEO of Catholic Charities USA. "We have just completed our Centennial year and the introduction of new legislation - the National Opportunity and Community Renewal Act - to address poverty in this nation. The timing couldn't be more perfect to receive the support and broad endorsement of our work by the Foundation. It will take our message and our mission to a broader audience. We are extremely grateful."

Catholic Charities USA has set a goal to reduce poverty in America by 50% by 2020. The organization amplifies local actions into a bold voice that teaches, shares, and encourages new solutions to reduce poverty in America. Despite significant increases in requests for assistance and decreases in financial support, the resolve and dedication of Catholic Charities' volunteers and staff has not wavered.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

Gingrich Foundation Designates Alzheimer’s Association as Charity of the Month

Author: Gingrich Foundation
Dateline: Washington, District of Columbia (WASHINGTON, D.C.)  | Wed, 01 Dec 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “The Gingrich Foundation has designated the Alzheimer's Association as part of the Gingrich Foundation's Charity of the Month program. Each month the Gingrich Foundation selects a charity, which is recommended to over 700,000 readers of the Newt Gingrich Human Events weekly newsletter.”

A R T I C L E:

The Gingrich Foundation has designated the Alzheimer's Association as part of the Gingrich Foundation's Charity of the Month program.

Each month the Gingrich Foundation selects a charity, which is recommended to over 700,000 readers of the Newt Gingrich Human Events weekly newsletter and posted at both Newt.org and GingrichProductions.com. Readers are encouraged to donate to the charity.

The Alzheimer's Association is a donor-sponsored charity founded in 1980 to overcome Alzheimer's disease. More than 5 million people suffer from Alzheimer's in the United States, and by 2050 there will be nearly 16 million Americans suffering from the disease - the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Today there is no treatment to cure or even slow the disease. As the largest private funder of Alzheimer research, the Association dedicates no less than 72 percent of its national organization's funds directly to Alzheimer's research, advocacy, and support.

"The Gingrich Foundation is pleased to support the Alzheimer's Association. Thanks to their investments in research, they are improving care for Alzheimer's patients and bringing us closer to a cure," said Callista Gingrich, President of the Gingrich Foundation. "Newt and I encourage others to join in supporting the Alzheimer's Association to help ensure a future where the lives and memories of our children and grandchildren are not prematurely taken away."

"Newt and Callista Gingrich are Alzheimer champions and have done so much to help lead the fight to overcome this disease. As one of the co-chairs of the Alzheimer's Study Group, a bipartisan group of national leaders, Newt helped to start an important national dialogue about Alzheimer's and underscore the urgency of acting quickly to discover ways to prevent and contend with this disease," said Robert J. Egge, Vice President of Public Policy for the Alzheimer's Association. "The Alzheimer's Association is grateful to have been chosen as the Gingrich Foundation's Charity of the Month and appreciates the continued focus, energy and commitment from both Newt and Callista in solving one of the most significant public health threats of our time."

Since its inception, the Alzheimer's Association has been the leader in Alzheimer awareness, promoting and funding innovative research, prevention, and care. Currently, the Association is working to advance policy priorities aimed at ending the disease.

The Gingrich Foundation is a domestic non-profit corporation founded by Callista and Newt Gingrich to support charitable purposes.

Delta Dental of Oklahoma Honored for Its Statewide Charitable Efforts

Author: Delta Dental of Oklahoma
Dateline: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.)  | Fri, 16 Jul 2010

freeNewsArticles Story Summary: “OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Delta Dental of Oklahoma was recently honored for its contributions to the state's nonprofit community. The Beacon Award honors 24 statewide businesses that have played instrumental roles in supporting nonprofit programs that help so many Oklahomans in need; the program recognizes finalists in six categories, with a Beacon Award winner in each category.”

A R T I C L E:

Delta Dental of Oklahoma was recently honored for its contributions to the state's nonprofit community. The Beacon Award honors 24 statewide businesses that have played instrumental roles in supporting nonprofit programs that help so many Oklahomans in need; the program recognizes finalists in six categories, with a Beacon Award winner in each category. Delta Dental of Oklahoma received the overall Beacon Award for philanthropic impact in the small business category, which represents companies of 100 employees or fewer.

This Beacon Award honor helps demonstrate the fact that Delta Dental of Oklahoma (DDOK) is even more than the state's largest dental benefits provider. DDOK's core mission is to facilitate the delivery of dental care to as many Oklahomans as possible - with or without dental insurance. The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation was established in 1998 to help fulfill that mission, as well as to advance oral health education.

"There is so much need in Oklahoma, and we are in a unique position to dramatically improve the availability of more care and education," said John Gladden, Delta Dental of Oklahoma president and CEO. "Our hope is to be able to grow funding to provide further support to dental professionals volunteering their time and make our charitable foundation the hub of benevolent dental care for all Oklahomans. We believe it's our responsibility to do so."

In its first 10 years, the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation contributed nearly $2 million to dozens of dental health and education projects and initiatives statewide. Realizing that even more could be achieved with additional funding, the DDOK board of directors amplified funding to the Foundation to nearly $1.4 million for 2009. This represented an increase of more than 300 percent over the previous year.

"For more than a decade, the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation has increasingly supported oral health and education throughout the state. This has resulted in significant social and economic benefits, and it has helped improve the lives and oral health of countless Oklahomans," said Terrisa Singleton, Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation Specialist.

Some of the outreach programs include Captain Supertooth, who has helped more than 125,000 grade school children across Oklahoma take pride in their teeth and understand the importance of oral health. The Foundation also supports the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes/Special Smiles Program, as well as numerous Give Kids a Smile projects in which volunteer dental professionals take oral health education, screening and dental care to disadvantaged grade school students.

In addition, the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation works to expand access to dental care by providing grants to free and low-cost dental clinics and programs statewide. These programs make oral health accessible to thousands of uninsured, underserved and low-income Oklahomans. In addition, the Foundation demonstrates its commitment to the advancement of dentistry by providing $100 thousand in annual support of the OU College of Dentistry's clinic, where faculty-supervised dental students gain valuable hands-on experience. The Foundation also provides $50 thousand in scholarships annually to 10 OU College of Dentistry students.

The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Charitable Foundation is the philanthropic affiliate of Delta Dental of Oklahoma and is the state's single largest contributor to dental health and education-related projects and initiatives. Delta Dental of Oklahoma is a not-for-profit corporation providing dental coverage to individuals, families, small businesses and Fortune 500 corporations located across the state and nation. For more information about the Foundation or to download a directory of free and low-cost dental care resources throughout the state, visit www.DeltaDentalok.org/foundation
